Volumnia's power

Act2.1.143-6
This excerpt seems to tell us more about Volumnia's character. Today in class we discussed if Volumnia was just the ideal Roman mother, similar to Hecuba, by raising her son to be a great warrior for Rome. However, other theories were brought up and that Volumnia is using her son to her advancement. I think this excerpt brings more light to her character. Contrary to Virgila, Volumnia seems to have a completely different attachment to her son. She doesn't seem to have a motherly love, care, or concern that Virgila expresses. She really only seems to want to use him for her own source of power. She seems to announce that he will take a place before he is even given a chance to make that decision for himself. She almost has a controlling power over him. It's not an option for him to show the people his wounds to become consul because she's already stated that he will do so. I don't even know how Martius's feels about the political position and if he even wants it. He seems to enjoy being a warrior, yet he doesn't really come across as wanted a more powerful position. Especially when he doesn't even want to deal with the people at all.
